Ranger Bob has been busy painting leaves this week

Leaves: 30%-40%
Grasses: 100%
Wildflowers: near 100%

Current Color: More and more color is being seen throughout the park. The sumac is crimson red about 90-100%. The maples are about 30%. Ash trees are 60%. Native grasses and wildflowers are at or near 100%. Blue asters are in full bloom around Bass and Beers Lakes.

Best Color Viewing: Throughout the park.

Park Notes: Leaf Days will be held in Maplewood State Park September 29-30 and October 6-7 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. all four days. Maplewood State Park manager Robert Hanson said that visitors will be able to enjoy the fall colors, hike or use the bike trails. Participants can bring their own picnic lunch or support the park by buying food from the park's friends group as part of their fundraising efforts. Smoked turkey legs, barbecue sandwiches and more will be offered in the park's picnic area. For more information, call (218) 863-8383.

Water will be shut off and showers and modern toilets will close for the season on October 8. Year-round, water is available at the park office.
