It's not much of a value if you do not like apple pie. I strongly urge the pie contest sponsor to consider adding a blueberry pie and/or pumpkin pie category next year.
Goes well with cinnamon, ice cream, chocolate topping or even peanut butter.
My personal favorite is blueberry, but apples are easier to grow.
How many have eaten Mrs Ripley's pickels from the Grace Lutheran Church in Erhard's fall bazaar? I would walk a mile barefoot for a pint of those pickels.
How much creativity is there with blueberry and pumpkin pie? Neither of these offer a variety of pies. Apple is always a great choice because no 2 pies were alike at the contest. There is a greater variety of ingredients that mix with apple and therefore, there were 8 or 9 totally different pies that night. I can order a variety of apple pies when out, but only one type of pumpkin and one type of blueberry. I think the library made a great choice. I wonder what they will add next year - they've already done chocolate chip cookies, chili, salsa and now apple pie - suggestions? Mine would be quick breads or muffins.

You get to sample each pie and vote for the people's choice for favorite pie.
Not too bad for a dollar!
Cheers!

Apple pie is overrated!
Technically, if you include blueberry or pumpkin pie, it would not be an "apples to apples" comparison (no pun intended).
On the other hand, more pie has never been a bad thing...
How could anyone not like apple pie????

Sorry, Anon 2:09 on 10/7, I disagree with you.
The typical "blueberry pie" or "pumpkin pie" that most people in the box think of is very limiting.
Some of the best desserts I have made have been infusing very unexpected ingredients with common ingredients such as blueberries or pumpkin.
Creativity is in the eye of the beholder. Believe me, in my line of work, creativity is an essential part of life. (I teach.)

It isn't that we have "left out" blueberry or pumpkin pie. We just wanted something different from last year's salsa contest.
Originally our plan was anything with apples, but for the judges sake, we narrowed it down to the apple pie.
The pies were fantastic.
Thanks to everyone who attended, and we will consider these suggestions for next year's contest.
Cheers!
Annie
