Wake up Pelican

The PRFD moved into the new PRFD Fire Hall on South Broadway on December 27th. What to do with the old Fire Hall? Anybody have suggestions for the City Council? What's that I hear? Indoor hockey rink? Concert Hall? Satellite County offices? Community Center? Liquor Store? Post Office? Swimming Pool?

Well, I have never been inside the Fire Hall, so it is tough for me to say with any authority what it should become.

However, I think community center with workout equipment and meeting rooms would preserve the public history of the building and fill a need in Pelican Rapids.

Post office?

How about a craft brewery bar & grill? Ever have a Rapids nut brown ale? Or maybe a Frothy Dam Oatmeal Stout? Maybe a Firehouse Red Ale...

Give another identity to Pelican Rapids - beer brewing capital of Otter Tail County. One could bust out concrete of the driveway, have a low ornamental fence at the sidewalk, and have an outdoor patio that the garage doors open up to (open air restaurant).

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think Pelican will be "growing" out of their Post Office for any time soon.

I have no idea how large the Fire Hall actually is, but it would be neat to have a community theater. the High School's theater needs work with acoustics and such. Of course...this is just a dream :D!

I could be wrong...but didn't it used to be a movie theater?

Yes, it was a movie theater nearly a century ago. I suggest that it return to that same purpose. If not, how about a popcorn stand like Pop used to have near the Pelican River?

How about a Teen Center - a place for recreational as well as educational activities for our young people. There is a huge need to have a place our teens to have something positive to do and a safe place to go, especially the 12-16 year olds. Teens what are your suggestions? What you would like to see?
