WASHINGTON, D.C. - Some turkeys are bred for the dinner table. Snowball was bred to hobnob with the president.
The 40-pound turkey from Henning, Minnesota, along with his 36-pound alternate, Blizzard, will be pardoned today by President Bush in an annual Thanksgiving ritual that dates to 1947.
To prepare for the occasion -- the 10th for Minnesota-bred birds -- the National Thanksgiving Turkey and his runner-up have known nothing but pampering: Fresh water, a regular diet of corn and soybean meal, and plenty of human contact.
