The Vergas Bank Robbery and The Car Heist at Larry's Supermarket

Let this be a warning to car thieves visiting this area or living in our midst. 56572 is not LA. In towns the size of 56572 you are what you drive. After acquiring a different vehicle one is freed from the obligatory wave for about a week, a very lonely week. "What was that stranger doing waving at me?"

Oldtimers like myself remember the Vergas State Bank holdup. Strangers come in to town, steal a car or pickup truck, have lunch at the Loon's Nest or Billy's Corner Bar, then hold up the bank. They park in front of the bank and leave it running. When they come out the getway car is footsie. A local sees these robbers in a local vehicle, sees them walk in to the bank, thinks... there must be something fishy going on...and returns the car to its owner. Robbers come out, flee on foot and are apprehended.

Friday night, a local woman left her two wheel drive SUV wannabe running while she ducked into Larry's. Her Autostart was broken. The doors were unlocked. When she comes out with the carry-out boy, no wheels. Call the Cops. Cops come with Cop Dog. Stolen car is found stuck in a snow bank a few blocks from Larry's. Cop Dog smells booze. Cop Dog quickly sniffs out thief.

We don't mind if you crawl into the car to warm yourself up while we are picking up bread and milk, just leave it in Park and keep your fingerprints in your pockets and oh yeah, leave the loose change in the cubbie.
