The Cannibal Pike

Jimmy was frying up a cheeseburger for my neighbor Monday noon and a burger for me. I don't see my neighbor very often in the winter. He was telling me about fishing. His neighbor got his Christmas present from his wife early this year. She got up in the middle of the night on the Friday after Thanksgiving to get up to Menards where she got the last Aqua-vu for under a hundred dollars. Together they tried it out last Saturday on South Lida. It had been an exciting afternoon. No fish were caught, but the fish were certainly not camera shy. Yesterday, I asked at work if anybody had one of these already. One person did. When I asked why the others didn't, their answer was price. This morning the flyer on the table showed they were on sale for just under two hundred. There was interest. Cabela's has them too. The idea is to record all the action, maybe just to have proof about the Lake Lida monster that got away. The camera is in the nose of what looks like a decoy. Decoys come in various species as one can see in the photo. The Aqua-vu website has videos on demand of whatever species of fish wets your whistle. I probably should do a search for Aqua-vu on YouTube. What's next? Video cameras on top of the scope of your deer hunting rifle? Ranger Bob came to work a bit late this afternoon. He had Band Aids on a finger of each hand. He had caught an eight pound Northern after just putting a minnow down and while he was untangling his spear. After he set the hook, he forgot to let go of the line fast enough and the monofilament cut through his skin. The Cannibal Pike bit him while he was taking out the hook. She had one of her offspring in her stomach to boot. How's that for motherly love? Guess what Ranger Bob had for supper? That would have been some dramatic footage had Ranger Bob had an Aqua-vu. Almost bloggable. Share your best Aqua-vu video with 56572 readers. You don't even have to tell us who you are, name of the lake - preferably with GPS coordinates - is enough. One would think that the Aqua-vu would be equipped with GPS so one could find last winter's fishing hole with ease?

I have used one of these this winter and it is very useful. Altough its tough to find a good inexpensive one: people who fish as their winter sport should buy one, for the incredible view below and aslo to find the edge of those reed beds for a nice spot to fish for awhile.
