La pace è nelle tue mani

My better half and I have been invited to attend International Day at Waldsee outside Bemidji on August 13th. A friend is the founder of the Concordia Language Villages and he is to be honored that day. (It's a secret so don't tell him) I was struck by the UNESCO Culture of Peace logo. I was stopped dead in my tracks when I saw the variance in translation. The UNESCO Culture of Peace website explains this as "You may note from the multi-language version of the slogan that two different variations are possible depending on the language (English, Arabic and Russian slogans are variations of «peace is in our hands», while the French, Spanish and Chinese slogans are based on the cultivation of peace). There is no explanation for why the Italians are told that "Peace is in your hands" or the Norwegians that "Peace is a mutual responsibility." Where's Babel Fish when you need it? Nevermind blogmaster, quit being so Jantish. The message is the same.
