Reader inquiry: Is 'hot-saucing' an appropriate way to discipline children?
Parenting discussion groups have been buzzing about a not-so-new practice called "hot-saucing" or "hot tongue," administering a drop or two of hot sauce to a child's tongue as punishment for backtalk, lying or other mouth-centered misbehavior.
Adult children: Did your parents use this technique on you? Would you use it on your own childen?
As we work on a story on the practice, we're looking for parents who have used this disciplinary tool, either in years past or currently. Does it work? What was your reasoning in using it?
Please e-mail reporter Maria Elena Baca at mbaca@startribune.com, or call 612-673-4409 with a short synapsis of your story and reflections, as well as a daytime telephone number. Thanks!
