Royal Danish Divorce

Tine Harden

Prince Joachim of Denmark and Princess Alexandra have separated and will divorce. Queen Margrethe and her husband, Prince Henrik, said in a statement released by the palace on Thursday that they "deeply regretted" the couple's decision, but that they would give their full support to their son and daughter-in-law. The princess will keep her title during a one-year separation period and when the divorce is completed it will be the queen's decision whether to let Alexandra keep her title. Joachim, 35, is the queen's second son. He and Alexandra Manley, 40, were married in November 1995 at Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerød. They have two sons, Prince Nikolai, 5, and Prince Felix, 2.
