Poor Pete

We here in 56572 are not quick about many things. Naming things is something we need to think about for a while. The bones of a seven thousand year old Native American woman were found two miles north of here back in 1931. As famous as she is, she still has no name except for "Minnesota Woman."
The Pelican has stood as a decoy for forty-five years next to the Rapids. A year or two ago we had a contest to give the poor fellow a name. My suggestion was Jose Mohammed Haugrud (or something like that). I lost. The name Pete won the contest, but hasn't stuck. Ask people on the street what the Pelican's name is and you'll get a shoulder shrug. It can be lonely standing there as a tourist decoy for so many years without much success in finding a mate. Glenace Metcalfe has come to Pete's rescue with these three lovely female pelicans (or whatever hen Pelicans are called). Glenace is a local artist who lives just down the street from Pete. The ladies are on the south side of the Mill so Pete can't see them. I went down to talk to Pete this afternoon and told him he finally had company. He smiled.
