Save Bullwinkle

Troopers stand by when moose ends up near traffic
Associated Press - 03/01/2005
FARGO, N.D. (AP) - A moose that has taken up residence on a farm near Gardner, North Dakota wandered close to the traffic lanes of Interstate 29 north of Fargo on Tuesday, prompting Highway Patrol troopers to keep on eye on the animal until it jumped a fence and wandered back into a field.
The state Game and Fish Department is investigating reports that a snowmobiler chased the moose over the weekend. Officials say the incident might have spooked the animal from the safety of a field where it has been the past four months. "I don't think it would have strayed (near traffic) unless someone antagonized it," said property owner Audie Brorson. The moose, nicknamed Bullwinkle, has drawn a lot of attention. "You worry about the poachers, someone ... driving up with a snowmobile or taking a potshot at it," Brorson said.
