Is your real name Schlueter? Got any I.D.?
FERGUS FALLS, Minn. – The victim of a fatal stabbing Sunday in Pelican Rapids is not who police thought he was, Otter Tail County Sheriff Brian Schlueter said Wednesday.
Initially identified as Ernesto Carmona Matos based on documentation he used for employment, the victim is now thought to be Noe Israel Morales Ramos, 17, Schlueter said.
The name change is based on a birth certificate obtained from Guatemala, Ramos’ home country, Schlueter said.
Juan Martin Morales, 18, who lived with Ramos in a home south of Pelican Rapids, is accused in Otter Tail County District Court of stabbing Ramos during an altercation Sunday morning.
Morales, who was arrested about eight hours after the incident, told authorities Ramos started a fight with him and ended up stabbing himself during the altercation, court documents state.
Morales was charged Tuesday with second-degree murder and remains in the Otter Tail County Jail in lieu of $1 million bond.
Schlueter said it has been determined that both Morales and Ramos were in the United States illegally.
