Second metro student arrested after making threats
Star Tribune April 7, 2005
For the second time this week police have arrested a high school student who is alleged to have threatened his fellow students. Coon Rapids police arrested a high school student about midnight after learning that the teen had threatened another student. The 16-year-old boy is being held at a juvenile detention facility in Lino Lakes, said Sgt. Mike Dunkley. Police would not reveal much information about the incident pending their investigation. Meanwhile, KSTP-TV reported that the student had planned to bring a gun to school to harm another student. Police found out about the threat after receiving a call, Dunkley said. A brief investigation led police to the student who was arrested. Police will continue their investigation this morning by questioning more parents, students and teachers, Dunkley said. "We would take this seriously regardless of what happened at Red Lake," Dunkley said, referring to the school shooting on March 21 at Red Lake High School that left six students, a teacher and a security guard dead and other students wounded. On Tuesday, a Minnetonka Middle School West student was arrested after the school intercepted text messages that were threats directed against some students.
