Monthly Monty Python Posting (MMPP) April 2005

And now for something completely different.
Once a month I just throw something off-the-wall on to 56572. It will be something you won't see or read anywhere else. You can help me with the MMPP by sending appropriate material. What is appropriate? Like porn. you know it when you see it.

The big news from Europe today was the maiden voyage of the Airbus 380, a Superjumbo jet which will carry up to eight hundred Europeans at a time to America. What caught my attention today was the news from Holland today of the launch of a new toilet.

OK, I have this thing with toilets. I am old enough to remember when going to Grandma's meant going out to the two holer next to the barn with a clothespin in my pocket. Ever since then, I wait for the next big thing in toilets.

The Netherlands is one of the most densely populated countries in the world. They know a thing or two about waste disposal. Take a good look at the photo. That small hole in front is a urine drain. A Dutch engineer by the name of Bjatur Swart from the Grontmij Company designed it with the purpose of separating liquid and solid waste.

Why would you think you need to separate the two? Engineer Swart said ecology was the driving factor. There are nitrates in urine which are harder to process. There are also increasing traces of hormones and drugs in human urine. This is causing infertility in Dutch fish. The first test of the Swart toilet will begin June 1st.

The Swart toilet will sell for US$780. Engineer Swart has already thought about how he's going to gather all male urine at the front of the toilet bowl. He's urging men to take a seat. For those who refuse there is always the time tested urinoir. How they get the liquid waste to the waste processing facility separate from the solid waste is another valid question. Holding tanks?
The Swedes and Germans are ahead of the Dutch in this technology.
