To the foreigner the Netherlands is a country of walls, doors and windows. The most important walls are the dikes which hold back the sea and the rivers. On the other side of this wall the North Sea waits patiently to reclaim the Zuiderzee taken seventy-three years ago. The Dutch and the Frisians are not eager to give it back.
