Tom Rieschick @ PRPL in October

The art of Otter Tail County portrait artist Tom Rieschick is on display this month at the Pelican Rapids Public Library. I was impressed.

"Tom Rieschick is primarily a self-taught artist living on a farm in rural Minnesota. The bulk of his work over the past decade has been his captivating pen and inks. Specializing, but not limited to, portraiture, Tom creates the pieces using thousands upon thousands of dots, developing and gradually modelling the subject to create a realistic and living work of art. Recently, he has also been working in oils, particalarly interested in the Old Flemish techniques. Again, this time consuming, adventurous mode of creating a portrait helps Tom carefully study the subject, sucking the soul from the individuals onto the canvas using multiple layers to achieve greater depth and use of light. In addition to being published in Biography Magazine, the Wall Street Journal, and other various magazines, Mr. Rieschick has been commissioned to create many portraits of people and pets. Many of the works seen on this website is for sale, and Mr. Rieschick is currently accepting commissions."
