Our family is relatively small. Last month our aunt died of cancer. This Thanksgiving our table was stretched out to make room for our grieving cousins.

After dinner your choice of washing or drying dishes, napping, playing a card game called Up and Down, playing chess, watching football on television (the Lions and Cowboys both lost) or braving the icy north wind and going for a walk. The family in California both called from their mobile phones from their cars on their way to dinner in Las Vegas and San Francisco. There was a long telephone conversation with the family in Bergen, Norway, in which most of the family participated. Those in Bergen bemoaned the fact that they had no Stove Top stuffing mix, pumpkin pie mix or Mountain Dew. The lone Norwegian at our table, did well in not mentioning lutefisk, but did let fly about the omission of flatbread on our Thanksgiving table.
