Friday after school, the PRPD were called to Pelican Townhomes to stop a fight between young Somali residents. Somali elders (both feuding clans supposedly represented) were summoned and were also at the scene. The story is that five young Darod Somalis - both male and female - were beating on a young Hawiye Somali woman. Alleged motive for the attack was that the victim had not been dressing as modestly as Sharia Law would dictate. She was taken to the clinic with cuts and scratches.
I had and have no clue just how many Somali clans there are.. After reading this article and this very extensive one, I have learned there are many. In 56572 I am told there are four: Darod, Hawiye, Dir and Isaaq.
In this country we hear that the ongoing political difficulty in Somali is due to clan warfare. Although you are free to practice any religion you care to here, Sharia Law is not the law of this land and physically attacking somebody is going to get you in trouble. The Somali elders in 56572 are certainly embarrassed by this behavior. I wish them well in keeping this type of behavior (and any sort of retribution) under control. Seek other ways of ironing out your differences.
Kudos to Chief Fox for his proactive work in establishing relationships with the Somali elders. People ask why diversity works in 56572. This is an example.

In this context there is what I believe misinterpreted facts and reasons for the outbreak of what caused this fight. This fight had nothing to do with Darod or Hawiye. It was just a four teenage girls fighting over what we all know little evil teenage girls do or say to each other on how they look like or act that day. also I believe this incident had nothing to do with sharia law and how modest these teenage girls dressed....the four girls were just in mood for fight and they should not make excuses on whether they were fighting over religion or tribe causes.
In 56572 we do not have clans or tribes we are all Somalis....so we should all know everyday teenage girls fist fight and called names on each other so we shoudn't make any big deal out of this.
I would like to thank the PRPD for their respect and efforts to solve this matter last weekend. They did awesome job getting the situation settle and work with the elders.
