A flurry to start off the month of June

There is so much activity downtown this morning that we are thinking of hiring a second reporter to cover it all. Yet we don't want to raise subscription prices either.

Since yesterday, somebody, under cover of darkness, painted white stripes at ninety degree angles from the curbs between the lights. One supposes somebody figures that after all these years without, we will know what they are for, let alone pay attention to them? Will infractions be ticketed and towed? Has somebody told the Somalis? The parking spots are usually filled with shop owner and employee cars before the tourists get to town anyway. We hate to walk, even when the weather is perfect like today.

Patty Dahl, owner of the "New Moose", is having new windows put in this morning! She hopes to open her The Muddy Moose: a Coffee and Wine Bistro a week from today. Yes old-timers, you heard correctly, wine and beer, on sale, between the lights. With so many other Watchdog Groups around we wonder if that wasn't the "New WCTU" meeting at Riverside Coffee this morning.

The City is replacing the steps down the riverbank to the Pelican. Things are looking pretty spiffy behind Historic City Hall with the new cement, picnic tables. railing etc. Now if we could get the railings on the Broadway Bridge painted???

Randall McLain's (the fellow whose body was discvered in the Pelican River south of town last Saturday) obituary is in the Fargo Forum this morning. In it, it says he has lived here since 2004 working for the Pelican Motel. Few of us knew Randall. Few of us knew he had gone missing. It's not that we are cold and uncaring. Perhaps the next time somebody goes missing like that, more of us will go searching downstream?
