What the Vikings ate

Last week I visited my second of the three major Viking ring castles in Denmark. Fyrkat is located at the end of the Mariagerfjord near the city of Hobro on Jylland. No Disneyland here. This is the real thing with a resident Viking, his wife and kids there too, to show you what the Vikings ate and how to make your own Viking Bread. I had often wondered why the Norwegians like flat bread so much. It's Viking Bread. What else can one do without yeast? After you've seen the Viking ships in Roskilde, Fyrkat should be on your menu. Will the Vikings come sailing down the Pelican River to next summer's Friendship Festival and show us how to make Viking Bread? Let's hope so.
