Hector Communications agrees to $147M buyout
Hector Communications, a Hector, Minn.-based provider of telephone services to rural areas, said Tuesday that it has agreed to be bought by a consortium of Minnesota telephone companies for $36.40 per share in cash, or about $147.2 million. The buying group was recently formed by independent local phone companies Blue Earth Valley Communications, Arvig Enterprises and New Ulm Telecom, Hector said. The deal still has to be approved by Hector's stockholders and regulators. Completion of the merger also is subject to the closing of Arkansas-based phone company Alltel's acquisition of Midwest Wireless, a rural wireless carrier based in Mankato. Hector Communications is one of several owners of Midwest Wireless and expects to receive after-tax proceeds of about $39.5 million from the sale.
