Open enrollment can be a excellent program to encourage schools to perform at their best. Pelican Rapids is no different. Rather than take the position of look how bad open enrollment is and what it is causing to our school district, lets ask why and how can we improve our schools so that others want to send their children here. Lets be honest are our schools all they can be?
Well said. A survey of why families choose to open enroll out of the district would be beneficial for the board for planning.
If you look at the top 3 losers, look at how the voting residents view schools when they try to move into the times with facilities.
The only problem with a survey is the honesty issue. People are not going to admit to readily that the reason they are not sending their kid to Pelican Rapids' schools is because of the ethnic diversity.
Instead, they will list some other reason that will put their mind at ease for chosing to fear what they do not understand.
