TWTWTW in 56572 2006.36

(As in That Was The Week That Was)

This week a 56572 religious leader lashed out verbally at a society that would bring
"these dangerous Muslims to 56572, then not help them so they had to beg from churches." The leader could not see any reason to allow these people resident status, "unless we are prepared to convert them to the way of salvation."

Something must have gotten lost in translation here. We have yet to meet a Somali here trying to convert us. We doubt that Somalis were panhandling (such a great word) from local churches; Roma have been known to panhandle here on occasion, not Somalis. Some Roma we know locally are quite undevout Muslims, some celebrate Eastern Orthodox holidays, some are quite undevout Catholics.

This week another 56572 religious leader digitally spread the message "As we as a nation remember the events of September 11th, let us also remember to continue to pray that the Lord will deliver us from evil; and in so doing, that He will destroy our enemies so that they will never be able to rise again against us. We can begin naming the names of known terrorist groups and individuals in our prayers, and ask the good Lord to deliver us from their evil - asking Him to kill them, in the same way that he killed Saul of Tarsus, or in some other equally permanent manner."

56572 has no correspondent in Iraq, so we have no news about what was being preached in Shiite and Sunni mosques this week. We do wonder if the messages may have been similar to those above, only the evil different.

We have not yet checked with local Muslims for their thoughts on what Pope Benedict had to say in Regensburg on Tuesday. Kelley want to do that?
I just hope I won't see any Danish cartoons about it tomorrow.

Our numbers show that 56572, if we're not there already, is approaching a level of about 10% Muslim. Our claim to Minnesota fame used to be we were the largest town without a library. Can we now say we are the smallest town with a mosque?

I received that second religious leader's "digital message" regarding Saul of Tarsus. It would appear to be quite intolerant to pray that God would kill our enemies, but you need to consider the rest of the message before jumping to conclusions. Saul of Tarsus was a murderer--he killed, and supported the killing of, people who did not believe as he believed. "Saul's" death was not a physical death. The Terrorist named Saul died when he was changed into a man whose only goal in life was to spread the love of Christ (and Saul's name was changed to Paul). Bin Laden is also a terrorist, and it is not God's desire that he should perish before repenting of his sins. In the meantime, there is nothing wrong with praying that God would protect us from the evil doings of Bin Laden and other terrorist groups. Hopefully, they will die deaths similar to Saul's and become individuals who spread God's love. If not, let's support our military in their efforts to smite those evil ones "in some other equally permanent manner." God Bless You!

Absolutely agree with you. Support the troops regardless of your politics. They are doing a job that most either can't or won't do. Our troops put it all on the line, how many of you are willing to do the same? Pray for the safety of our troops and that the world may find peace.
