D-G-F falls
Pelican, West Central, West Fargo among winners
56572 is kinda abuzz today about yesterday's football game. So, it's the Wednesday before the two day holiday known as MEA when students stay home while their teachers all go to Minneapolis to attend meetings. The game starts at 1:00 p.m. School get outs at 3:15 p.m. Those who want to go the game, teachers included, can sign out. The rest of us listen to it on Forum Radio and watch Chris Lage's seventy yard touchdown catch with time running out on Forum Television. This morning in the silver and blue Forum Newspaper kiosks around 56572 the byline D-G-F falls and this photo appear in the upper left hand corner of the front page. Mike McFeely wrote, in article titled "The Great Divide:"
"There was no quit in Pelican Rapids on Wednesday. Its reward was a victory, a share of the conference title and a healthy shot of momentum heading into the playoffs. The Vikings stunned Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton with a 70-yard touchdown pass from Tydan Storrusten to Chris Lage with 40 seconds remaining, stealing a 20-15 Minnesota high school football victory and a piece of their third straight Heart O’ Lakes Conference championship at the Fargodome. “You just never give up,” said Lage, a senior whose only catch of the afternoon was the game-winner. “We were behind with 40 seconds left and a long way to go to the end zone and we came out on top. Who would’ve thought that?” Certainly not the Rebels, who led 15-14 and still appeared headed for an upset victory despite failing to convert a crucial third down at their own 30 in the final minute. Instead of being able to run out the clock, D-G-F had to punt and Pelican Rapids took the ball at the Viking 30. After an incomplete pass, Lage ran a sprint pattern down the left sideline on second down. Storrusten’s pass was just out of the reach of D-G-F defender Michael Nelson and Lage caught it in stride at the Rebel 35. He went untouched into the end zone. The play rescued Pelican Rapids (6-1 HOL, 7-1 overall) from a lethargic performance."
In a business that is all about money and is, seemingly, increasingly controlled by fewer people, it would seem to me that Great Divide Mike is referring to must be the County Line. Clay County teams are always the home team. Stats matter. You writers remember to write something good about the home team. Maybe tomorrow, when none of 56572's Forums are returned to Fargo, we stand to go up a few numbers in their rankings? Or aren't you buying it either?
