TWTWTW 2007.04 Little Fat Ones

Energy levels typically drop this week in 56572. Coping with winter gets boring. Hibernation REM for geezers my age just doesn't cut it. One tends to lose enthusiasm for all energy expending activities such as blogging, washing dishes, cooking etc. One place where several thousand calories were expended this week was on the Woessner Lake Rink in front of Viking Elementary. To see these kids having so much fun gives us geezers a lift, if even for an instant. Another lift this time of year comes from food, especially comfort food. I have been a regular customer of the Rapids Cafe where Doris & Co. are just finishing up their fourth week. They have to be pleased. The Wednesday authentic Mexican lunches are a hit. Señora Lety served gorditas this week. Terry didn't have an answer to my question of what the word Gordita meant. I told her to go back to la cucina and tell Señora Lety "Soy una gordita." After she finished laughing Lety answered, "Pero no, eres una flacita, yo soy una gordita!" Fearing I would end up "mas gordo" I did not finish my second gordita. The fried tortilla was a bit much for me. 56572's recommendation of week 2007.04 is to try Lety's taco salad. Bring some salsa from Las Monarcas across the street. I doubted there was a cafe in the world that could touch The Cornfield's Taco Salad. Señora Lety's gets very close........ Not only is the ice hard to enough to skate on, there is enough ice (24 inches?) for the Fishing Derby to escape postponement or even worse, cancellation. Tomorrow hundreds will venture out on to Baldry Bay on North Lida to compete for the largest fish. The wind will be fresh, the temperature just above zero, the wind chill a ways below zero, second hand smoke will not be a question and nobody will ask what's in your Thermos. Chubs might be a good bait selection. Little Fat Ones. Bait experts now tell me that Chubs are now sold as fatheads........The November 2006 takeover of Loretel Systems Inc. (the Ada and 56572 piece of what used to be Hector Communications Corporation) by Blue Earth Valley Communications, Inc., Arvig Enterprises, Inc. and New Ulm Telecom, Inc., has entered the shakedown phase. Thursday this week must have been particularly hard on West Mill, with word of layoffs, pay reductions and job description changes. Some towns may complain about the foul odors local industries produce. In 56572 we should be thankful that the second hand smoke from our town smokestacks reminds us of what must be America's favorite holiday, Thanksgiving.
