We are saddened to announce that Lilia Moreno Chavez, 2006 graduate of Pelican Rapids High School, died on Saturday, February 17, 2007 at the age of 20.
Lilia had been hospitalized in Mexico for the week preceding her death as a result of a car accident. Two of our current students, Marlen and Maricela Urbano, were also passengers in the car; in addition, Lilia’s older brother and a cousin and another person were in the car during the accident. It is believed that the other passengers will recover from any injuries sustained.
Lilia is survived by her parents, Jose and Maria Moreno,, her older brother Carlos and her younger sister, Blanca. Blanca is an 8th grade student at our school. In addition, Lilia has many cousins and friends in our school and in our community who will miss her.
A fund has been started by Lilia’s church. There will also be a collection point for cards and money in the principal’s office. Please bring cards and memorial money to the principal’s office in the next week.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Moreno family during this difficult time.

Lilia was a caring, sweet person. I was fortunate to be able to know her for a short time while I was an aide and a sub for the ESL class at PRHS. She tried hard and was a good friend to her classmates. I am saddened by the news of her loss. My condolences to her friends and family.
