Now that I have your attention.......
This week one could write about the weather. How three days of this past week were like the antonym of a blast furnace. How, although we know that living here forces our souls into hibernation, these were the days we wish our bodies would follow suit.
I assume you've stopped reading by now?
One could write about the City Council waiting in vain for Chamber directors to show at the City Council meeting. About the townships talking fire hall. Or the rumors....only the Governor can close the schools for wind chill....he will on Monday....won't he?
I listen to different voices than most in 56572. The voices I listened to this week were talking about the bad news from Paris. The news that the cause of global warming is us. You and me. The fingers of blame from smaller countries are pointing towards the larger ones. At us.
I read about a couple who had a green wedding, something I had never heard of.
I got an email telling to me to join the protest and turn out all the lights in my house at 7:55 p.m. for five minutes, just to let them know that we got the message about global warming, that we are madder than hell about it, that we are going to do something about it, so life will be tolerable for our kids and grandkids. Then the message that I had better not turn my lights out at 7:55 p.m. because the sudden demand at 8:00 p.m. could cause the grid to go down.
By now I started thinking I needed to get out of Dodge for a while.
Upset by the high prices of my local bankrupt airline, I turned to the alternative local airline. I found a fare I could live with and clicked on it. The next window gave me the sad news that in the instant it took me to click, the fare had risen by $200. One must be more decisive. Then I heard that stagecoaches with wings cause greenhouse gases. Big time. That every time I fly I should pay the contrail tax to get back to carbon neutrality by using a carbon offset. For this trip I should pay $47 in greenhouse taxes. I can grasp this and was willing to start paying Dave Weaklend every month for the new Lake Agassiz Windmill Park west of town. Had the fare held up after my fateful click, I might have.
The story of this week is the story of our carbon footprints.Stop right here and go back to the last two words of the last sentence. Click on the link. Get smart. How big is your carbon footprint? The United States has the largest carbon footprint of any country. One thing I read this week was about the carbon footprint of a cheeseburger. What will the carbon tax be on a cheeseburger?
While I study the problem of global warming the outside temperature is -20F/-28C the wind chill index is -41F meaning there is a wind chill warning and one should not venture outdoors. Although our ship is sinking as the waters rise the sun is rising too.
At least our birds are healthy and our snow is white.
The voices I heard locally this week said basically one thing: Bears or Colts?
What is the carbon footprint of the Super Bowl? Be prepared for the green commercials.
Now, if like the person who understands me best, you did not click a few links along the way, you are totally lost thinking Blog Guy is out to lunch, which brings us full circle to thoughts of a cheeseburger.
Stay warm. Next week better. (Blog news I mean)
PS TWTWTW 2006.05's winner for most intriguing 56572 conversation of the week goes to NS, 56537 Esposa Venezuelana of CS who holds a prominent position at OTCHS. We met at Las Monarcas 2 as I was out of Herida. I pushed her talk button by mentioning Citgo and Hugo Chavez. She filled in the blanks. We need to talk more about Fidelito. I am truly interested. 56572 readers need to hear what you have to say Nancy.

A sci-fi idea is gaining supporters, from billionaires to city councils.
Whether it’s feasible is another matter.

Here's a link to a site that estimates how large your ecological footprint is in terms of diet, transportation, household size, etc. Nothing quite like quantifying your daily consumption in order to really evaluate what sort of effect you have on the globe. And what's more fun than a 3 minute quiz?
My footprint: 14 acres, requiring 3.3 Planet Earths if everyone lived like this college sophomore (probably pushing 4 or 5 Earths if there weren't 200 people living in my "household" with me).
It's thoughtfulness like TWTWTW 2006.05 that reminds us that this issue has us all very concerned about the future of the "Blue Marble". It's not about anti-consumerism, or adhering to new age philosophy, and it is definitely not about scare tactics. But it certainly is about protecting something very delicate and what sort of lifestyle-reassessment we're willing to make.
Thank you for posting so candidly.
Sorry, this is the biggest scam of our lifetime. Follow the money.
