Local overnight rainfall reports of up to 4.25 inches (107mm) have pushed the level of the Pelican River to a level even old-timers can't remember. The only thing higher than the river here today is the price of gas. The reading at the Mill Pond Dam was at the 4.40 level this morning. The City is considering opening gates to relieve the situation as more rain is expected tomorrow. How much was in your rain gauge? Tell us how much and where using comments.

It was filled with things he had purchased on Temu, which he’d recently
discovered (much to my mom’s annoyance).

4.25 inches; mile & half west of Pelican.
4.8 inches by the Club.
On May 22nd after all the rain we received I am certain many people in 56572 ended up with wet basements. My questions to the readers is: a city council member had the street department and the fire department at his place pumping water so his house doesn't get wrecked. Who pays for two hours of call out for these people? Is this a perk of the job? Is this available for all residents of 56572?
The location you reference at the elementary school is unique, not because a councilman has a residence nearby, but because a large amount of storm water collects in this area. The rain on May 22, 2007 came fast and furious. Many of us are aware how much water fell from the sky in a short amount of time. The pump the property owner was using was malfunctioning and he was losing the battle with the rising water. It wasn’t until I received your email that I learned that the city pumper truck was used at the referenced location. When asked about the incident Fire Chief Steeves told me that he was contacted to see if he had a pump that could be used to replace the problematic pump. Fire Chief Steeves (volunteering his time) went to the location and made a determination that the only way to save nearby properties from damage was to use the pumper. It was the first (and probably the last) time the pumper was used in this fashion. Rest assured that the property owner did pay a fee for the pumper’s service.
I will not comment on whether Trevor Steeves actions were right or wrong, however, I will say that it shows the character of Trevor; to do whatever he can to help a neighbor.

To anonymous who wrote in whining about the help that Ben Woessner got from the city and the Fire Department: Pathetic you are. Do you want some cheese with that whine?
To Don Solga:
I don't think it would take a rocket scientist to figure out if Trevor Steeves was right or wrong.
Of course he was right.
Sounds like double talk and fence riding from you.
To Mr. Aunonymous
I have had to live with the problem of my house flooding twice since 1997, because of the problem with all the water that drains into one area. I have lost many nights of sleep and so have my parents. We have had to spend thousands of dollars repairing our home from damage caused from the flooding that never occured until they paved the elementary parking lot and raised up the level of the skating rink. We have asked many times for something to be done and nothing has changed except for a catch basin up at the football field that helps greatly. I thank those who have offered their assistance because without their help we would have had to pay much more. My father being a council member has nothing to do with it, because we got the same help long before he was elected to council. If you have a problem that you think is just then bring it up to me and my parents and i think we can shed some light on what you think there is an issue about. Otherwise if you have an opinion to state then please leave a name and get a back bone. Im deeply dissapointed that someone had to write something like this and not stand up to take responsibility for what they said.
Good for you Ben Jr.! It's reassuring to have young people like you articulating solid logic that obviously eluded the author of that original and embarrassing comment.
I've seen a lot more solid logic coming from the younger members of this community than many of the older, should know better types. Maybe the younger generation recognize the problems and want to work to fix them, versus the no comprimise attitute of some. Good job Ben, Jr!
I never said who the person was that had their basement pumped out. I was referring to the next time I had water running into my basement. I wanted to know if anyone could have this service done!
Dear Anonymous,
I don't think anybody buys that story.
