Loretel DSL

Loretel Systems gave me this link to test my DSL connection speeds. If you are a Silver Bundle customer you are paying for 512 kbps. I am a Gold Bundle customer, am paying for 768 kbps and am struggling to keep up and download speeds above 600 kbps. Try the Speedtest for yourself. What are you paying for and what are you getting?

We are paying for 512kbps, the test said that we are getting 420kbps today. Some days, the numbers are much lower.

The most accurate DSL speed test is www.dslreports.com.

DSL Speed Differences Between Households

The rated maximum bandwidth of a DSL connection often cannot be reached. Additionally, actual DSL speeds vary between households. Factors affecting DSL speed include:

* Quality of the phone line at your residence. Neighborhoods with better copper wiring can achieve somewhat faster DSL speeds.

* Length of the phone line between the residence and the phone company hub (often called "central office"). DSL technology is "distance sensitive" because its performance decreases significantly as you get further away from this hub.

* Service glitches. While normally a constant, DSL speed can suddendly drop if the service provider has technical difficulty with their network. Speeds should return to normal after a few minutes or hours.

With all of that said, I still think that Loretel has some crappy DSL.

Crappy and expensive. I seriously doubt ACS is going to invest much in PR.
