The Fergus Falls Daily Journal published an article today about a new online database listing local recipients of various federal farm subsidies from 2003-2005. We don't have much interest in the listing, but should you, we will save you some time looking for the 285 recipients from 56572.

A small price to pay to have cheap food available to us all!
11:07, Ya but. Does the pizza or antique joint on main street see any assistance? You never know, the tourist/customer season may not pan out either, like the growing season.
2:33, I see your point and agree that there may be some who should not be getting farm payments. (Cenex Harvest States, ect.) However, we are also spending a ton of money on welfare also, why do they get paid anything?
The government is controlling the markets by stock piling and using cold storage for much of the farmers products. They then leverage all of our surplus grains to buy some cheap oil in a third world country. The governments interference makes it so that there is no real fair market.
The farm program is not a great system, but without it, we would be totally reliant on foreign food. The thought of that scares the heck out of me. If you don't like the price we are paying for gas, how would you feel about paying $10 for a loaf of imported 3 week old bread?
I don't have a good solution, but I don't think that now is a good time to bite the hand that feeds us.
