Chauncey Dean Fox
He was born July 11, 1929, to Chauncey Fox and Alma (Kern) Fox in Wadena, MN. Dean graduated from Wadena High School in 1947 and continued his education at St. Cloud University receiving his Bachelors Degree in Education. He taught school for one year in Danube, MN. Dean was drafted into the army in 1953 and served in Germany for two years. After his discharge from the service in 1955, he accepted a teaching position in Pelican Rapids. While teaching he attended NDSU to complete his Masters in Education Administration. He taught junior high math, history, and driver's education during his 40 years of teaching. Dean was also the assistant wrestling coach for 34 years and coached high school baseball in the 1960's as well as Little League, Babe Ruth and Legion Baseball for over 20 years.
On February 14, 1953 he was united in marriage to Marilyn Lundell at her parent's home in Wadena, MN. After Marilyn's death in 1998, Dean filled his days with school sport activities, community service, and his grandchildren.
Dean was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, sang in the choir, and was on church council. He served as a lay minister for over 50 years at several Minnesota churches. Dean was active in the Ottertail Masonic Lodge No. 284, Pelican Rapids, Birak Shrine, Detroit Lakes, Golden Rod Chapter No. 61 O.E.S., Fergus Falls, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 5252, Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association, and in 1987 he was inducted into the Minnesota High School Wrestling Hall of Fame for his dedication to high school wrestling.
Dean was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt and fish with his sons and grandchildren. He enjoyed baseball and football and was a Twins and Vikings fan.
Dean, age 77, passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2007, at Innovis Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota.
Dean is survived by 3 sons: Michael (Suzi) Fox of Minnetonka, MN, Scott (Gail) Fox of Pelican Rapids, and Brian (Julie) Fox of Foley, MN; 5 grandchildren: Anne Fox of Plymouth, MN, Natalie Fox, Mifflinburg, PA, Ryan and Kristen Fox of Pelican Rapids, and Devyn Fox of Foley, MN; 2 brothers: John (Betty) Fox of Coon Rapids, MN, and David (Bernice) Fox of Wayzata, MN; sister, Mary (Clifford) Helling of St. Bonifacius, MN; sister-in-law, Edna Fox of Mound, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marilyn; and brother Robert Fox.
