Docks, boat lifts, boats and pontoons all took a hit this afternoon along Lida Shores and Crystal Lida Beaches on North Lida. The photo is looking west from Inlet Beach.
Convective conditions were perfect over the lunch hour today and convect is what it did. The first warning came that a tornado had been spotted between Breckenridge and Fergus Falls headed northeast. The sirens went off in 56572 about 1:30 p.m. Fire and police units stormed out of town to take up spotter positions. The sky turned green. Tornado between Erhard and Elizabeth headed northeast. A few minutes later reports of a tornado over South Lida in front of Hallaway Hill. A tree down over Stony Bar next to the tunnel. Then the damage reports started to flow in from Crystal Lida. Hardest hit was a narrow band centered at the east end of Lida Shores and Emerald Drive with many trees down. Crews were still busy late this afternoon clearing tree debris off County Highway 4 at the east entrance to Lida Shores.
This evening on television we saw a photograph taken by Bob Gilbertson of Tri Lakes Estates of the funnel coming across Lida before it slammed into Lida Shores. Would Bob care to share it with 56572 readers? If you know Bob please ask him if he would share it. He can email it to 56572 using the links under comments in the column to the right.
