Rural rapture

We were out and about in a pub north of 56572 drinking Pacificos and plotting with a Frau from Fertile one evening last week. She reminded us of Eric's Country Scribe blog. We used to link to it on 56572 and have done so once again under the blog links in the right hand column. His posting for this soggy, somber and cool August Monday is fine writing, country style:

Planning the eye doctor trip

We're planning Aunt Olla's trip to the eye doctor in Ada tomorrow. She's been slowly recovering from her heart attack of a week-and-a-half ago. It is taking a little longer than she would like, but she did walk all the way down to dinner and back the other night.

Olla is looking forward to getting out into the countryside again. The drive to Ada isn't the most scenic, but you know that Olla will be rapt the entire time.

In fact, Olla said, she'd kind of like to die while riding through the countryside in the car.

I told her I'd rather she not.

Well, she said, I suppose that would be a little unusual and perhaps somewhat undignified. "I guess that isn't the way people do it these days," she added.

Then, I thought, why not. I told her she was free to die wherever she wished, and if it happened to be when she was in the pickup with me, I would figure out how to deal with it.

"Oh, good!" she said, relieved.

So, does anybody want to ride along tomorrow?
