Are you as curious as we are about the Park Region Alps, all with flags on the summits? How about the smell of petroleum in the air? We assumed that Park Region Oil had received the all clear from the MPCA to build a new convenience store/McDonalds at the same location. We assumed borings were done the same time they were drilled for the Pelican Dollar Store. Work proceeded at a rapid pace until this week. Now there are mounds of- seemingly polluted-earth surrounding the excavation topped with flags. Do these flags designate the level of pollution of the earth underneath? Will the old soil be removed or mixed up and recycled? Can anybody shed light on the process?

Why don't "We" do the smart thing and ask the people in charge, instead of posting smart alec questions on a blog site. I thought this site was for "educated arguments", not just (obviously) to stir up trouble.
Did check with a member of the co-op board. Old soil will be blended with new and replaced. Thousands of yards of fill will be required to be the site up to grade with fire hall. Best to have this done by 9/1/07 as new (and more expensive) regulations go into effect then regarding the underground tanks that are already in place.
What was unclear is how the runnoff to the feed mill and AMPI collection area will be handled. That area still belongs to the railroad. It's part the old depot sight.
My goodness, Anonymous @ 11:32AM on August 23, 2007, take it easy. Sometimes a person needs to read a statement twice or more to get the jist of a posting. The questions posted by the blogger are intended to be conversation jumpstarts and can be interpreted in multiple ways. Don't be such a nervous Nelly!
I agree with 11:32. Jumpstart? I agree it's more like "stir up".
