To the greatest staff and community members in the world-
As many of you know the robot crew is in the process of raising money for their championship trip to Arkansas. The support that has been received is awesome and I have had some people ask where they can donate or what can they do to help. Well here is your chance…
The greatest fund raising and food event of the millennium will be held this Thursday the 15th 5:00-8:00 pm at Crossroads Corner Restaurant. It is a good old fashion chili cook-off where our favorite area chili experts will be showcasing their finest chili delicacies.
The official and honorary judges will be the Pelican Rapids Fire Department and some other well respected community members so be sure to greet them with an extra compliment this week.
If you would like to compete in this event for a chance to earn the coveted and prestigious Best Tasting Chili Award, let me know. There will also be plaques awarded for the "Chili Pepper" award, "Most Unique", and the "People's Choice" award along with gift certificates to Larry's Supermarket.
For those of you the are entering a chili here are some notes:
-Have the chili hot and ready to eat in a crock pot or electric cooker by 5:00 p.m.
-Make enough for about 10 hearty eaters
-Remember to bring a serving spoon and an extension cord
-Have a name picked out for you chili that does not include your name (for example; Norwegian no bean chili and not Stuvland's no bean chili)
-Judging criteria will be as follows:
o Color - Chili should look appetizing, reddish brown is generally accepted as good but this is depending on what type of chili you are making
o Aroma - Chili should smell good. This also indicates what is in store when you taste it.
o Consistency - Chili must have a good ratio between sauce and meat. It should not be dry, watery, grainy, lumpy or greasy.
o Taste - Above all else is the most important factor. The taste should consist of the combination of the meat and spices.
o Aftertaste - The aftertaste or bite is the heat created by the various types of spices and or peppers.

Other people have mentioned that they might enter a chili and there is still room for about 5 more contestants. If you are interested just send me an email or call. If cooking is not your thing maybe eating is. Bring the whole family out and leave the cooking to the experts. For $6 bucks you can eat chili and support the robot crew while having fun. Also you can even drive the robot around the restaurant for a $1. I hope to see you all there!

Seemed like a good turnout last night! I hope you got enough support to take your team to Arkansas. Let us know Mr. Stuvland.
Also, would like to hear who the winners were.
This community is awesome! We had 17 different chilis and over 120 people attended. Thank you all for supporting this event and the PRHS robot crew. This could not have been possible if not for the chili cooking experts that made some excelent masterpieces. Best tasting honors went to Shari Vogel and second place was Corey Stuvland. The chili pepper award went to Jeff Cossette and there was no one arguing over that as Cross Roads almost ran out of water, pop, and beer on account of the flaming mouths.
Most unique award went to Coleen Guhl's "white lighning"
The peolple's choice award went to Wanda Holt.
Some of the special thanks that are in order go to Larrys for donating the Grand Prize, Cross Roads for Providing a great place to get together. Also thank you to all of the Fire Department for Judging. So many people helped with this event that I am just blown away. We are lucky to live with such caring and fun community mwmbers.
As for how the fund raising is going... We are getting close. Not quite yet, but the goal is in sight. Personal and business donors are coming out of the wood work-thanks!.

This fun raiser was awesome. I love the idea of this type of funraiser! No frozen foods no cookies no middle man.. I wished more groups would use this type of event!
