CSI: 56572

We don't have many murders in 56572. Most long time locals will remember "the murder" back in 1981 Others remember the Union 76 shooting. We don't know what to expect after a murder. Cops all over the place? A Live Star satellite truck? Channel 6 seems to show up pronto when something bad happens. When somebody dies in this town people line up with food. No traffic at all two doors south of here, the scene of the crime. Channel 6 was here today.The neighbor from the daycare, next door south, was a shadowy face on television saying she was scared. She used a fictitious name. Her name is not Laura.

What is real plain today is how dead it is downtown. Now the thermometer has risen above eighty for the first day this year folks are staying inside by the air conditioner? Sore muscles from working in the yard and garden over the weekend? Sitting in front of the tube all day waiting to see what happened? Could it be they are too scared to come out? The phones must be glowing.

It was a great weekend for the farmers to get in their fields and do prep work. Mention was made about how few farmers are doing so. It's still wet. Mention was made about farmers who do field work on Sundays. One farmer said he refuses to work on Sunday. His parents had taught him the 4th Commandment by not even letting the kids use a scissor on Sundays. Is shopping work?

The BTB (Bike Trail Boys) took their anti-school bond issue to the Fargo media today. Richard Sha, a supervisor in Lida Township, appeared on Channel 4 at noon to say that the High School was in good shape. Richard is in good shape himself. He's in his 80's. The free advertising tactic backfired. My seventy-five year old mother thought it was ridiculous to have such an elderly gentleman speak out against a new High School, on television especially. She emailed me to say so. Thanks Mom. Anybody a bit younger in the BTB who can talk on camera?

Life goes on two days after a murder. Thank goodness the perpetrator is behind bars.
