A Pelican Rapids man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of stabbing his housemate to death around 3 a.m. that day. The suspect was identified as Miguel Alejandro Ramos Rivera, 24. A unit from the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Department found the victim in the upstairs bedroom of the home, at 40981 Highway 59, on the southern edge of Pelican Rapids. The identity of the 24-year-old victim was not released. The officers compiled a description of the suspect, who had been seen fleeing the scene on foot, and launched a search. Around 11 a.m., a citizen reported seeing a man matching the suspect's description who was walking along Skunk Hill Road southeast of Pelican Rapids. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. The suspect and victim had three housemates, who told police an altercation between the two had roused them from their sleep that night. Sheriff Brian Schlueter said the suspect did not speak fluent English and was being questioned with the help of an interpreter. He has not yet been charged with homicide. Schlueter said the investigation had not revealed a motive for the stabbing though the suspect and victim had been known to fight in the past.
