smells fishy

For the first time in recent history gas prices are higher in Pelican Rapids than in Los Angeles. I suppose their gasoline doesn't come from the Gulf of Mexico. Apparently ours doesn't either:

No gas shortages expected in state Associated Press
MINNEAPOLIS – While gasoline prices have skyrocketed, Minnesotans shouldn’t have any trouble finding gas.
Minnesota gets little of its fuel from the hurricane-devastated Gulf Coast region. About 90 percent of the oil refined to produce gasoline for Twin Cities service stations comes from Canada. Two Twin Cities-area refineries, Flint Hills Resources in Rosemount and Marathon Petroleum Co. in St. Paul Park, sell just about all their product within Minnesota and surrounding states.
Trade groups said Friday that no gas shortages have been reported by service station owners in Minnesota.

So, what gives? The last two weeks have shown us that there are two things man still has little control over; the weather and the price of gas. Seeing the price drop ten cents this morning helps. One would expect that after Labor Day.
