Chauncey Martin Motors (The Really Big Lot)

The history of the used car market in 56572 is a colorful one. As the town has gotten more diverse, the economy has changed as well. Most brick and mortar businesses sport for sale signs these days. More and more, business is done informally, on the street. Car repair used to happen in a shop. Now it happens in somebody's driveway. There is no till, no sales tax. My guess is barter is alive and well. It's been twenty-six years since 56572 had a car dealership. Now it appears that the last brick and mortar used car lot is also history. Galaxy Motors, on the site of Frazee's Texaco, across the street from Corner Grocery is empty. The used car action has moved south to the lower lot at Chauncey Martin Field. First thoughts that it was a WeFest phenom appear wrong at this point. Perhaps it's a jump start to Labor Day Weekend. School Board doesn't meet until the week after. Salesmen hawking the lot? Not in 56572. You've got the entire lot to your lonesome.

Uh-oh. Press reports today that selling your used stuff on school property is taboo. Cars, unless they were sold, seem to be migrating back north kitty corner to the Galaxy Lot to the FFHL (future fire hall lot) where surveying is occuring as we speak. At first I thought the idea of people using CMF for a used car lot a bit brash. Yet, who is hurt by it? No local dealers. Let the dollars change hands. It's the American Way.
