Why ICE Can Kill With Impunity
-
Over the past decade, US immigration agents have shot and killed more than
two dozen people. Not a single agent appears to have faced criminal charges.

I think that our Turkey Days are in a rut!! It is always the same old boring things going on! We need to spice things up. Get on a level with the younger generation. Maybe a few different events, better bands at the street dance! It seems like the other towns around here, their festivals have more to do! Not the same old same old!
Better bands? Who are you suggesting? Are you going to pony up a $10 cover charge for street dance?
People don't have a problem paying higher cover charges for something decent! What about different activities??? The same old same old!! Why can't we have a cooking contest for new and different ways of making turkey? What about frozen turkey bowling? How about a turkey eating contest?? These are just a few!!
Last year the Jaycees spent about $12,000 on the street dance. They managed to make about $300. I thought Martin Zellar was Awesome. It's scary to risk much more money than the $8,100 that was spent last year in hopes for more people. The jaycees love input and ideas and it is our goal to make the streetdace a better event each year.
This year a fun addition to Turkey days is the PRFD waterwar. Get your organization or business signed up to hose the competition down.

How many people actually knew who Martin Zellar was? We are not asking for "BIG" name bands! Any bar band that plays a variety of music would be great! Also, what about the cooking contests set up in the park along with the turkey barbeque? How about more advertising! To get more people here we need more than just flyers. What about putting some commercials on the television stations? Getting some decent beer would also be an improvement.
The Shakers were our main band for many years. They are great. They ran about $1500 and brought in about 200 people. Last year we spent about $1500 in advertising on radio, papers and mobile signs. But we managed to bring in 800 people. Advertising is very important.
This year we found a band that is a little less money than Zellar but won't have the following that Zellar has. We are still going to advertise plenty and hope for a huge crowd. As far as the beer goes we had 4 kinds to choose from plus hard lemonades. Sorry they don't sell Sam Adams in 16 oz plastic bottles.
I do think that more events with Turkey Days is a great I dea. Barnsville has some contest about every hour and it's a blast to participate and watch.
I don't see why we can't seem to get more things to do! Obviously 11:07am has been to Barnesville's festival! Why can't Pelican have more contests and get more people involved. The ugly truck contest was good for the first year or two now it seems to have run its course. Also, Barnesville runs ads on tv. I guess I am suggesting more bands like 32 Below or Betty Does etc.......! I think to get and keep people here for our festival we need to have more fun and interesting contests! I am trying to help out here.
