How come the High School Band no longer marches in this parade? (same goes for the pep band for sports) Too lazy? Not important enough? Surely we aren't too busy having a 3 day weekend to honor those who have served their country, some having given their last full measure,the ultimate sacrifice. Pelican is/was(?) a very patriotic town. I certainly hope we haven't become so commercialized that we've forgotten the real purpose of Memorial Day. IT IS NOT JUST A 3 DAY WEEKEND. If you think it is, shame on you. Can we so quickly forget those in our own (and neighboring) communities who have made the ultimate sacrifice? Unfortunately, the current war is not likely to end soon. I pray we haven't become so callous as to "blow off" our military members and their families. You never know when it could be one of your loved ones whom we remember (or forget). God Bless our Troops and pray for their safety. You never know when it could be one of your loved ones.
