Life "around here"

From an anonymous (24 year old) blogger in Omaha, 16 June 2007.

"
I'm back from Minnesota and wow! It's refreshing. I had a great time though (as always). It's a tradition for my mom's side of the family every summer. We go up to Pelican Rapids, Minnesota on Lake Lida for a week. We have 5 and sometimes 6 cabins and we do nothing but hang out together.

I went fishing everyday and caught a ton of fish. A few were worth keeping though. I got 3 Northerns and a Large Mouth Bass. As soon as I feel ambitious enough, I will get the pics off my phone and post them…maybe. Actually, I don't know if I see that happening…anyhow! I fished almost all day everyday for the last week. I had a Northern snap my line and also a nasty dog fish snap my line. I hate that when that happens.

I got ate alive by mosquitoes and had my fair share of ticks. I'm glad I don't have to deal with those damn ticks for a while. Those things are absolutely disgusting. I still feel like I have things crawling all over me.

We had lots of rain and played lots of games ranging from botchie ball, phase 10, hearts, dominos, pictionary, go fish and battle ship. I got a good tan and did I mention I did a lot of fishing??

I also saw soooo much wild life it was amazing. I found a painted turtle in the middle of the highway. My dad and I saw a bald eagle dive down to the lake to grab a fish and flew back to his nest. We also saw 2 pelicans fly right over us while we were fishing. We saw a deer cross the highway and found an abundance of caterpillars. There are two rabbits that live right outside our cabin. They are there every year and they just keep getting bigger and bigger. I found a brand new baby snapping turtle and saw all sorts of birds. We also found frogs and of course I saw different kinds of fish everyday.

We had a bon fire and we had a huge family picnic as well. I slept a ton and we had to stop at Maple Beach for awesome food. The picnic and Maple Beach are a tradition as well, can't go to the lake without doing those things.

It was a great time and I can't wait to go back next year."
