Record: Stolen car found in flames
A car taken in an apparent carjacking in Pelican Rapids was found in flames the same morning. A man reported two black men took his 1999 Chevy Malibu at gunpoint around 2 a.m. Wednesday on Lake Region Avenue. He told police that four individuals pulled up in a dark four-door car, Pelican Rapids Police Chief Scott Fox said. One man, 6 feet, 8 inches tall and brandishing a pistol, and the other 6 feet tall, got out and approached the alleged victim. Two other people stayed in the suspects’ vehicle. “We don’t know which one drove off in the (Malibu),” Fox said. Around 5:45 a.m. the same morning, the Pelican Rapids Fire Department was called to a car fire next to an apartment building on South Broadway. The burning vehicle was the one reported stolen, Fox said. “This is still under investigation so I can’t release a lot of information right now,” he said. “It’s being looked at by our private investigator.”
Why were the telephone wires cut in the neighboring apartment house Chief Fox? Unrelated incident?
